Saving Microsoft documents as PDFs for Linux
We have had problems at the ELC technical showcases with some PDF documents not being rendered properly in Linux or during printing.
This happens when the Linux Adobe reader does font substitution on documents that are saved from Microsoft Word or PowerPoint (on Windows).

It looks like it's important to embed the fonts in the PDF document, as the font substitution done by Acrobat is truly terrible. "Adobe Sans MM" is a really bad replacement for "Arial". The easiest way to achieve this is to use "print to PDF" instead of "save to PDF". and to use a virtual printer which does the conversion. (Something like CutePDF, or Acrobat Pro should work. I have personally used bioPDF with good results).
